What is dbDir ?

dbDir stands for DataBase Directory. In simple term, it is a directory for databases. It works by storing information you proivde about your database in a directory where users you authorized could tap into this directory ina more convenient way.

How does it really work ?

Below is a simple example...

Jamie uses a dbDir client to register as a user on dbDir server.
He then uses his dbDir client to create a Database Profile that contains information of his database he wants to publish.
Amy, who is already a registered user, logins to the dbDir server and joins Jamie's newly created database Profile.
By default, Amy would get all the access rights to only 'View' the Database Profile Jamie created.
Amy must contact Jamie in some form or ways to have him change his other rights to 'Edit' if necessary.
Amy uses the obtained database profile information to make a direct connection from Amy's application to Jamie's database (dbDir is not a middle man but a directory service).

What is the license of dbDir ? GNU GPL v3

Advise for a safer use.

You would be explosing a good amount of your database information on dbDir. It is advisable that you should create some sort of a database View or User that does not have administrative rights and have buffered access to your database. In simple terms, you needed to create some sort of buffered access and post the information of the buffered access (something you are willing to sacrifice) and maybe it's username and password (not similar to the main database's) onto dbDir for others to use.
